This list is numerical starting in 1924 when renumbering was converted to six digits starting with the number “5”. This was done when the railroad decided to place all MofW cars, (cabooses are considered to be non-revenue, I.E. maintenance of way) in the 500000 number series. As other railroads were purchased or merged into the N&W, their cabooses were renumbered, sometimes only on paper, into the 500000 series.
This list contains approximately 1,613 N&W cabooses. Disposition/retirements/donations are listed, if known, and also those units sold to secondary markets are listed.
