| It's hard to believe that such tape could exist. One solid hour of the largest fleet of articulateds ever built - all operating in their original setting on their own tracks - in this case on the western slope of the Norfolk and Western main line between Bluefield and Portsmouth, Ohio.
In the first half you see the agile A Class 2-6-6-4 between Williamson and Portsmouth with high speed manifest or rolling long strings of heavyweight passenger cars at 70 MPH.
The last half is devoted to the huge Y class 2-8-8-2 sluggers. These carried their enormous low pressure cylinders like overloaded grocery bags under each arm.

| An amazing 2nd volumn of digitally restored 8mm movies. This one covers N&W's "Punkin' Vine" to Winston Salem. There's every conceivable shot of trains 11 and 12, with their usual consist of one baggage, one coach, and one sleeper, pulled by a streamlined Class K-2a 4-8-2. Also... VPI football specials powered by double-headed Class M's, a scene of J-611's "last" run (they thought) in 1959, and scenes of one of those beautiful Y-class engines being cut up for scrap. | The former Norfolk and Western main line between Bluefield and Roanoke through the Appalachians and Blue Ridge has been one of the world's premier heavy haul railroads ever since coal was discovered in the Pocahontas region of West Virginia in the early 1880's. For 12 short miles east of Bluefield along the New and East Rivers, all of today's Norfolk Southern trains between Bluefield and Roanoke travel on the same tracks. This videotape shows 24 hours of action on the Norfolk Southern east of Bluefield between Narrows, Virginia, and Kellysville, WV, in the spring of 1995.
